Woman stabbed her daughter’s father numerous times while he was asleep in front of their daughter, then said she was trying to defend him from a shadowy figure attacking him

The public paid close attention to a case in which a woman repeatedly stabbed the father of their daughter while he was asleep, particularly because the defendant later made absurd claims about hallucinations and disturbed mental health.

Several months after claiming an insanity defense, 22-year-old Morgan L. admitted to stabbing her former boyfriend 19 times while he was asleep. Following the violent act, Morgan made a statement to her victim:

“V1 stated that once he was able to fight the scissors out of her hands, Morgan stated that she did not know what was happening; she had a dream,” as per the officials’ documentation.

She faced charges of aggravated battery with intent to cause severe bodily harm and second-degree reckless endangerment. The court found Morgan guilty as per the official records.

If Morgan is handed the maximum sentence for both charges consecutively, she could spend up to 25 years in prison.

Police received a call regarding an incident in the 500 block of Jefferson Street around 8 a.m. on Feb. 18.

Initial reports described the situation as follows: “Sister freaked out, and boyfriend is bleeding. Possibly stabbed in the arms,” according to reports.

On arrival, the scene was grisly. A report mentioned Officer Bennett discovering a blood-covered young blonde woman wearing an oversized UCLA sweatshirt. She seemed to be administering first aid to a man, pressing on his upper chest or shoulder.

“When Officer Bennett reached the top of the stairs, he saw a younger blonde female who appeared to be wearing only an oversized blue UCLA sweatshirt and had the appearance of blood coating both of her legs, her feet, both forearms, and the back and front of her hands,” documents stated. “She was leaning over the back of a black sectional couch in a living room, applying pressure to a shirtless male’s upper chest or right shoulder area.”

The man, who fortunately survived the ordeal, sought answers from Morgan, asking, “Why in my sleep, bro?” Morgan’s reply hinted at a hallucination: “I thought I saw something.”

According to further documentation, Morgan and the victim, the father of her child, shared a home. Morgan claimed to have been witnessing a dark, non-human figure for several months to a year. On the morning of the incident, after placing their baby in a playpen, she recalled going back to sleep. She then has a fuzzy memory of an incident that she initially interpreted as a dream in which she believed the victim was being attacked by the mysterious figure. Morgan’s response was to defend him, which led to her attacking the victim with scissors. She only realized her error when the victim started to resist and scream.

Morgan later told the police that she thought she had seen something and expressed concerns about her mental health, mentioning “something wrong with my head.”

In statements, the victim portrayed their relationship as strained, detailing instances of abuse and daily arguments. They had been in a relationship for three years but had separated a month or two prior to the incident. While he acknowledged previous threats from Morgan, he was bewildered as to why she attacked him, especially in the presence of their daughter.

During the attack, he recalled waking up to her stabbing him and Morgan murmuring about having a dream. The aftermath was captured in a report, which detailed:

“V1 stated that he didn’t really realize what happened until he looked down at his body and observed blood squirting out of his body. He ultimately was able to attempt to fight back and pinned her down to get the scissors away from her. V1 stated that once he was able to fight the scissors out of her hands, Morgan stated that she did not know what was happening, she had a dream. V1 then asked her to go get a towel and she was able to go and retrieve a towel for him. She then said something about, “I don’t want to lose custody.””

Lastly, officials noted the extent of the victim’s injuries and found bloodied scissors near the couch at the scene.
