Woman gets into tense argument with daughter over daughter’s relationship secret, what happened next leads to decades-long prison term

In a case that has drawn significant attention, a 22-year-old woman has been handed a 30-year prison sentence for the fatal stabbing of her mother. The incident, rooted in a dispute over the daughter’s “relationship” with one of her mother’s friends, highlights the complexities surrounding familial conflict and the legal challenges of self-defense claims.

A 22-year-old woman has been sentenced to three decades of imprisonment following her conviction in the death of her mother. The dispute leading to the tragic event was reportedly over the younger woman’s “relationship” with a friend of her mother.

Jackalynn received a 30-year sentence as a result of her role in the 2020 death of 36-year-old Amanda. The sentencing came a month after a jury found Jackalynn guilty of manslaughter with a weapon or firearm. She was acquitted of a more serious charge, second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. This latter verdict prevented her from facing a life sentence. The court recognized the 1,028 days that Jackalynn had already spent in custody, reducing her total time.

Following the sentencing, Assistant State Attorney Samantha said, “I’m grateful we were able to deliver justice on behalf of Amanda and her family. I hope they can find some solace in knowing that Jackalynn couldn’t escape justice and that every word spoken on behalf of Amanda was heard,” according to an official press release from the State Attorney’s Office.

The incident began on Oct. 24, 2020, when officers responded to a reported homicide on Canal Lane. By the time authorities were notified, Jackalynn had reportedly left the scene. On arrival, first responders discovered Amanda with a fatal stab wound. She was quickly transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Importantly, witnesses shared that before losing consciousness, Amanda identified Jackalynn as her attacker.

Witness accounts indicated a loud argument between the two women, after which Jackalynn was seen fleeing the residence. She was located shortly after, attempting to disguise herself on a bus. She was then arrested and charged.

Jackalynn, in her statements, alleged self-defense. She claimed that during an altercation in a bedroom, she had to resort to using a knife against her mother. While she did exhibit some injuries, authorities mentioned that they did not appear to be recent.

The prosecution believes the tragic incident stemmed from a disagreement about Jackalynn’s relationship with one of Amanda’s friends. The defense argued that the state’s “stand your ground” law allowed Jackalynn to act with deadly force, but the contention did not sway the jury.

Additionally, while in detention earlier this year, Jackalynn faced another charge related to inappropriate physical contact with a fellow inmate.
