Man sends his friend’s minor daughter to buy ice cream with a scooter, then someone runs into her as soon as she gets back and shoots her dead

A tragic event took place recently where a 9-year-old girl was fatally shot outside her residence. A 43-year-old man living across the street from the 9-year-old girl’s home has been accused of the crime and detained without bail. The incident has shaken the community, as it uncovers not just a senseless act of violence but also layers of grief, with the young girl’s father having previously lost his wife to gun violence.

A 43-year-old man has been detained without the option of bail after being accused of shooting a 9-year-old girl outside her residence.

The incident took place at the beginning of August. The victim, Serabi M., was preparing to join the 4th grade.

The accused, Michael G., resides across the street from the Serabi’s home. He is charged with first-degree murder.

Reports indicate that Serabi was using her scooter outside her apartment when her father’s friend gave her money for ice cream. Shortly after purchasing the ice cream, a gunshot was heard. Michael emerged from his building across the street with a 9mm handgun.

Witnesses, including the victim’s father, observed Michael approaching Serabi. The victim’s father asked Michael what he was doing, but Michael ignored him and followed Serabi to the vestibule of her apartment building and shot her in the head, according to prosecutors. Serabi’s father tackled Michael, and the shooter’s gun went off as they both fell to the ground, and a bullet struck Michael in the eye.

The authorities clarified that there was no prior acquaintance between Michael and Serabi’s family.

Following the incident, emergency services transported Serabi to a hospital, where she was declared dead. Michael, meanwhile, was transported to another hospital in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, police searched Michael’s apartment and found a 9mm bullet lodged in the wall, a shell casing, a box of ammunition, and a gun box with a receipt for the gun he used to shoot Serabi, according to prosecutors. Ballistics tests matched the shell casing from Michael’s apartment and the two shell casings from the crime scene to his gun.

Michael’s bond hearing took place, and he was denied bail. He is currently in protective custody and is being closely monitored due to self-inflicted injuries.

Andrew, a community activist, shared his conversation with Serabi’s father after the tragic event. “He gave her money to get ice cream. She got ice cream for her and her dad. Then he asked her to put her scooter up, but before she could even have a chance to put her scooter up, this individual ran across the street and discharged that weapon. Now we have a child that’s lost.”

A news outlet received information from the family, indicating that there was no prior interaction with Michael. The family had relocated to the area just a year prior.

Holmes mentioned that the victim was eager to return to school. The father had previously experienced a tragic loss, with his wife being a victim of gun violence four years ago.

Members of the community gathered to commemorate Serabi. Family statements portrayed her as a cheerful and kind individual.
