Saturday night shooting at a Roanoke grocery store results with two injured, the shooting suspect taken into custody, report

A man and a woman were hurt when someone opened fire at a grocery store in Roanoke on Saturday night.

At about 8:30 p.m., shots were reported to have been fired at the Food Lion on Peters Creek Road Northwest.

Both victims were found inside the store by police. A news release from the Roanoke Police Department said that the woman’s wounds didn’t look like they were life-threatening, but the man’s wounds did.

Both were taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Officers found a man who was an adult at the scene and knew he was a suspect. The news release said that he was taken into custody without any trouble and that he later talked to officers and detectives at the police headquarters.

After talking to the city’s public defender, the police let the man go without charging him.

But the police are still looking into it and want anyone who knows anything to call 540-344-8500. Texts can also be sent to 274637; the police ask that texts start with “RoanokePD.” Both calls and texts can be made without being traced.

On Sunday, a manager at Food Lion who was there declined to say anything.
