Woman ran to a nearby store barefoot and covered in blood when the man she was involved in romantic relationship for some time turned violent and took her phone and clothes before assaulting her with a baseball bat and other items; sentenced!

Court records show that a 29-year-old man, later identified as Rico, who was charged with kidnapping, assault, and battery of a high and aggravated nature and first-degree criminal seхuaI conduct in connection with the attack in which he beat and burned his girlfriend, which left her with serious injuries and required her to escape and run barefoot and covered in blood to a local store, has now been sentenced to 80 years in prison.

The romantic relationship between the victim and Rico, which began in July 2021, deteriorated rapidly into violence. Utilizing objects like a tire iron, socket wrench, and baseball bat, Rico inflicted severe beatings on the victim, along with causing her third-degree burns and seхuaIIy assaulting her. This brutal mistreatment, described by prosecutors as an “unimaginable ordeal,” culminated in the victim’s desperate escape to a Walmart on August 28, 2021, where concerned shoppers immediately called for assistance.

Following the victim’s escape, the police department swiftly apprehended Rico. Investigations revealed the prolonged nature of the abuse, which spanned nearly three weeks, beginning on August 10, 2021. Rico’s actions extended beyond physical assault; he also took his girlfriend’s phone, clothing, and personal belongings and threatened to kill her to further instill fear.

The sentencing delivered at the beginning of February handed down the maximum penalties for Rico’s crimes: 30 years for kidnapping, 30 years for first-degree criminal seхuaI conduct, and 20 years for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, totaling an 80-year prison term to be served consecutively.

This case has resonated deeply within the community and the legal system, highlighting the importance of bringing violent offenders to justice. Leigh, a senior assistant solicitor, emphasized the case’s significance, stating it serves to protect the community and offer justice to the victim. The successful prosecution was greatly aided by the police department, with special recognition given to Sergeant Christian for his role in the investigation.
