Centra Health commits to improving access to healthcare services in Lynchburg area

Having accessible healthcare is crucial for the well-being of individuals and communities. Health care systems play an important role in providing access to quality healthcare, which can contribute to early disease detection, better health outcomes, and reduced healthcare costs in the long term.

Centra Health, a healthcare system in our hometown, has recently announced a $500 million multi-year plan to address community needs. This plan is based on a community health needs assessment conducted in 2021, which highlighted four areas of concern: access to care, access to behavioral health care, access to child care, and addressing chronic illness. The first phase of the project will focus on modernizing and expanding the Lynchburg area campus.

According to Amy Carrier, President and CEO of Centra Health, this comprehensive plan aims to address the needs of the community and is not just a single project targeting a single need. In addition to expanding the Lynchburg area campus, Centra Health plans to increase parking, replace the emergency department, expand home-based services, and address behavioral health issues.

All projects are expected to be completed by Fall 2027. This ambitious plan is a significant investment in the health and well-being of the community and will contribute to improving healthcare access and quality for years to come.
