Uber’s latest safety feature available to Roanoke riders

Roanoke, Virginia – Uber is a ride-hailing company that started as a simple idea: What if you could request a ride from your phone? The company quickly grew into a global brand focused on helping move people toward opportunity out in the world.

To enhance customer service, Uber offers 24/7 customer support where customers can contact Uber directly from their app for help with any questions or concerns. Uber is constantly working to improve their services and now, they have implemented new feature that would be available to Roanoke riders and offer them “piece of mind.”

Effective March 14th, passengers traveling with Uber in the Roanoke region can now take comfort in the new security feature that enables riders to record audio during trips directly through the Uber app. After being tested for over a year in select cities across the country, Roanoke will be among several new regions to roll out this game-changing feature. The audio recording feature, already available in over a dozen countries and more than 70 cities in the U.S., marks a significant step forward in enhancing the overall safety of Uber rides.

“We hope that by expanding this tool, we can continue to help give riders and drivers peace of mind and encourage more comfortable interactions while on trips,” said Andi Pimentel Dunn, Product Manager at Uber.

This new feature is readily available in the Safety Toolkit section of the app, providing riders and drivers with easy access to it.

One of the most significant advantages of this safety feature is that it allows users to start and stop recording at any point during their trip. If a driver chooses to record audio from the trip, the rider will receive a notification through their app accordingly. Conversely, the driver will not be notified if the rider chooses to use the audio record feature.

After an audio recording is completed, the audio file is stored directly on the user’s device. The file is encrypted, and no one will be able to listen to it, including Uber, unless a driver or rider submits a safety report to Uber and attaches the file. If a safety report is filed, a trained safety agent will be able to review the audio, helping Uber determine an action plan if necessary.

Notably, this tool promotes the overall safety of the trip, as well as offers an additional layer of security for riders and drivers. This feature is one of the many safety tools Uber promotes on their app, further highlighting Uber’s commitment to providing a secure and comfortable ride-sharing experience for its users.
