Road work planned on Route 219 as VDOT begins early pipe replacement north of Rich Creek
Rich Creek, Virginia – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that weather permitting, crews will begin work to replace a pipe on Route 219 (Federal Street) just north of Rich Creek starting Saturday, August 2. The project, originally scheduled to begin the week of August 11, has been moved up thanks to early crew availability.
Traffic Control and Expected Delays
On Saturday, August 2, preliminary work will take place between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., during which flaggers will be controlling traffic on Route 219. Drivers should prepare for delays as the crews perform preparation tasks for the full pipe replacement.
The main replacement work is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6, continuing through Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8. On these days, traffic will again be controlled by flaggers, but during nighttime hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning.
Motorists traveling through the area are urged to allow extra travel time and remain alert while driving in the work zone. Message boards will be installed to notify drivers of the upcoming nighttime work and to provide updates if the schedule changes due to inclement weather.
VDOT’s Commitment to Safety and Efficiency
VDOT emphasized the importance of completing the pipe replacement earlier than planned to minimize long-term disruptions and ensure the safety of the roadway. “Weather permitting, work to replace a pipe on Route 219 (Federal Street) in Giles County, just north of Rich Creek, will begin on Saturday, August 2,” officials stated, noting the efforts made to start earlier than the initially projected August 11 timeline.
The department also reminded drivers to pay attention to signage and instructions from flaggers to keep both motorists and crews safe.
