Minnick Schools to host first back-to-school cookout in years
Roanoke, Virginia – Minnick Schools is set to host a Back-to-School cookout, marking the first time in several years that such an event has been organized. This occasion, scheduled for Thursday, aims to foster a sense of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming academic year.
The event, designed to engage students, parents, staff, and community leaders, will offer an array of activities, including bouncy houses, food, and games. Local businesses have contributed support, with Grand Home Furnishings providing food, and the sheriff’s office volunteering to grill burgers.
Rebecca Bays, Principal of Minnick Schools, emphasized the importance of the event as a platform for community connection. It presents an opportunity for students and parents to interact with various community members and understand their roles.
Principal Bays explained: “When they see a police officer, right, they’re like ‘Hey, I met you. I met you that once at that cookout’ or they’ll say ‘Hey, Grand Home Furnishing. What is that? What does that mean for me? Is that a place of employment?” She further elaborated, “It’s more than just bringing those stakeholders into us but also for our students to ask what is out there for them.”
The event is open to all, even if prior registration has not been made. It is set to commence at 5PM, and the school administration looks forward to welcoming the community to join in the festivities.
