Democratic Party primary election for lieutenant governor, attorney general, and delegate district scheduled for June 17
Roanoke, Virginia – Voters across Roanoke City are being reminded of the upcoming Democratic primary election, scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, which will decide candidates for lieutenant governor, attorney general, and for residents in select precincts, the 40th House of Delegates district. According to officials, only those registered in precincts 15-Grandin Court, 16-Deyerle, and 17-Lee-Hi will have the House District 40 primary included on their ballots. Voters in all other Roanoke City precincts will cast their votes in the House District 38 races during the general election.
On the Republican side, the primary election for lieutenant governor has been officially cancelled. This follows the withdrawal of Patrick S. “Pat” Herrity, whose formal exit was recorded with the Department of Elections on April 22. With Herrity stepping down, all other Republican nominees for this position have now been declared.
The winners of the Democratic primaries will move on to face Republican and other party nominees in the general election set for Tuesday, November 4. Virginia does not register voters by political party, which means all registered voters are eligible to participate in the June 17 primary election regardless of their party affiliation. It is important to remember that acceptable identification is required to vote in person.
