Bridge construction work to temporarily close section of Springdale Road near Stephens City
Stephens City, Virginia – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a temporary closure of a section of Route 649, also known as Springdale Road, near Stephens City. The closure is necessary for vital bridge replacement work over Opequon Creek and will begin on Monday, April 7 and continue through Friday, May 30, weather permitting.
Major Detour in Place During Construction
During this period, through traffic will not be allowed on Springdale Road between Route 651 (Shady Elm Road) and Route 648 (Passage Road). VDOT has established an official detour route to help maintain safe and effective traffic flow for both directions.
Motorists traveling westbound will be detoured south onto Route 11 (Valley Pike), west on Route 631 (Fairfax Street), and then north on Passage Road back to Springdale Road.
For eastbound traffic, the detour will lead drivers south on Passage Road, east on Fairfax Street, and then north on Valley Pike to return to Springdale Road.
This necessary infrastructure upgrade is part of VDOT’s continued efforts to ensure roadway safety and structural integrity throughout the region. Officials remind drivers to remain patient and cautious while traveling along the detour route and to plan for possible delays.
According to VDOT, all work is weather permitting and schedules may shift in the event of unfavorable conditions.
