Snowtorious D.I.G. and Sir Plows-A-Lot among winners in Roanoke snowplow naming contest

Roanoke, Virginia – The City of Roanoke has officially announced the winners of its inaugural snowplow naming contest. After receiving over 300 imaginative and entertaining submissions from residents, the top 12 names were chosen through a vote by city employees involved in snow removal.

The winning names, listed alphabetically, reflect a mix of humor, pop culture references, and clever wordplay:

  • Han Snolo
  • Plow Chick A Plow Wow
  • Plower Ranger
  • Plowy McPlowface
  • Sir Plows-A-Lot
  • Snowtorious D.I.G.
  • Sled Zepplin
  • Sleetwood Mac
  • The Big Leplowski

These names were submitted by Roanoke residents ranging in age from 27 to 64, showcasing creativity across generations.

Celebrating Community Involvement

The winners have been invited to the Public Works Service Center for a special event. During the celebration, they will have the chance to place magnetic name placards on their respective snowplows, pose for pictures, and receive city swag as a token of appreciation.

“Staff enjoyed seeing the creativity from the Roanoke residents we serve,” said Fleet Manager Wayne Farley. “It’s great to see the community engage with us in such a fun and unique way.”

The contest not only provided a fun opportunity for residents to engage with the city but also highlighted the important role of Roanoke’s snow removal team.

Winter Preparations Underway

Roanoke’s fleet division has spent months preparing for winter weather. With the snowplows named and ready, the snow-fighting team stands prepared to keep roads clear and residents safe during the upcoming winter months.

The city expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation of the community and is looking forward to seeing these creatively named snowplows in action.
