City of Roanoke encourages residents to join snowplow naming competition for winter season
Roanoke, Virginia – As winter approaches, the City of Roanoke is adding a bit of creativity to its preparations by launching a community contest to name its fleet of snowplows. With at least 11 snowplows in need of unique names, the city is offering residents the chance to leave their personal touch on the equipment that will be clearing the streets during the colder months.
This contest will officially begin on October 15, and submissions will remain open until November 1. It is an opportunity for residents to unleash their creativity and come up with clever, lighthearted names. However, a few rules are in place to guide the fun. Entries must be limited to 20 characters or fewer, and participants are asked to avoid personal names, political references, or any inappropriate language. Additionally, anyone under 18 years old will need parental consent if their entry is selected.
Roanoke Fleet Manager Wayne Farley highlighted the excitement behind the initiative, saying, “This is a great way for residents to get involved with something fun and lighthearted while also connecting with the services that keep our City running during the winter months.”
Winners will be announced in early December, and those who have their snowplow name chosen will be rewarded in more ways than one. Not only will their creative name be proudly displayed on one of the city’s snowplows, but winners will also receive a Roanoke swag bag and enjoy a special photo opportunity with their named plow.
The City of Roanoke encourages all residents to participate and make this contest a memorable winter tradition. Whether it’s a clever wordplay or a winter-inspired name, the city is eager to see what ideas the community can come up with.
This initiative offers residents not only a way to have fun but also a chance to connect with an essential city service that ensures safer travel throughout the winter. Get your creative ideas ready, and submit your entries before November 1 to be part of Roanoke’s first-ever snowplow naming contest.
