Roanoke celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Mill Mountain Star with a community festival
Roanoke, Virginia – The City of Roanoke is rolling out the red carpet for a sparkling milestone as the Mill Mountain Star, a beloved local landmark, turns 75. To celebrate its rich history and ongoing legacy, the community is encouraged to gather on Saturday, November 23, at 10:00 AM on the observation deck of the Star.
Beginning with welcoming comments from Mayor Sherman Lea, the festival promises a blend of nostalgia and enjoyment. Nelson Harris, a former mayor and local historian, will offer an interesting window into the history of the Star, tracing its development and what it has meant for the community over the years.
Star-themed crafts will be available for those looking for a hands-on experience, thus ideal for both creative brains and families. While supplies last, guests can also enjoy free treats and capture memories through picturesque photo opportunities. Limited-edition giveaways will add an extra layer of excitement to this special occasion.

Whether it’s shining brightly to mark community celebrations or standing tall as a comforting presence during difficult times, the Star has become an enduring emblem of hope and pride for residents and visitors.
