Roanoke County to host festive events to spread holiday cheer across the community

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke County invites residents and visitors to join the festive spirit through a variety of holiday events designed for all ages. From a dazzling light display to Santa visits and gingerbread fun, the county has curated a series of activities to make the season memorable for everyone.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

Kick off the holiday season with the annual Roanoke County Christmas Tree Lighting on Monday, December 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the South County Library. This event promises an evening filled with holiday cheer, featuring:

  • Live music by the Cave Spring Jazz Band
  • Crafts and activities for children
  • Teen-friendly fun
  • Delicious cookies and cocoa
  • A special visit from Santa Claus

Illuminights Winter Walk of Lights

Experience the magic of the holidays at Illuminights Winter Walk of Lights, running from November 23 through December 30 at Explore Park. Stroll through a breathtaking display of more than 650,000 sparkling lights and immerse yourself in the holiday atmosphere.

While visiting Illuminights, enjoy additional activities such as:

  • Artisan craft shopping
  • Marshmallow roasting around the campfire
  • Special family activities on select evenings

Gingerbread Cottage and Santa Sightings

The Gingerbread Cottage at the South County Library is a must-visit this season. Part of the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce’s Gingerbread Trail, the cottage offers the perfect backdrop for holiday photos. Be sure to tag your pictures on social media to spread the festive cheer!

Additionally, Santa Claus will be visiting RCPL locations throughout December. Bring your children to meet Santa, share their holiday wishes, and even drop off their letters to Santa at any library location from December 1-21.
