Granules Consumer Health announces major expansion creating 99 new jobs in Prince William County
Dale City, Virginia – Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that Granules Consumer Health, a subsidiary of Granules India, is set to expand its operations in Prince William County, Virginia, with an investment of $1.5 million. The expansion includes the installation of new manufacturing lines at the company’s facility, which will generate 99 new jobs in the region.
“When we welcomed Granules to the Commonwealth in 2022, we knew we were bringing best-in-class to Virginia,” Governor Youngkin remarked. “Nearly two years later, Granules’ decision to expand their operations reinforces Virginia’s position as a cutting-edge hub for advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing. This investment not only creates 99 new jobs, but underscores the Commonwealth’s commitment to supporting businesses that drive innovation in healthcare and life sciences.”
Bringing New Opportunities and Strengthening the Economy
Granules Consumer Health specializes in the production of over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription drugs, offering cost-effective alternatives to brand-name medications. As part of the expansion, the company will develop more complex manufacturing capabilities at its facility in Manassas, focusing on popular OTC medications such as acetaminophen and ibuprofen.
Since opening its Prince William County facility in early 2023, the company has nearly doubled its workforce by hiring local talent. Dr. Krishna Prasad Chigurupati, Chairman and Managing Director of Granules India Limited, expressed his optimism about the company’s future: “We are excited to partner with Prince William County and to have chosen Manassas as home for our new packaging facility. This is a big step forward for us, and we are glad to be growing alongside the community.”
The expansion reflects not only the company’s growth but also the increasing importance of Prince William County as a hub for advanced manufacturing and logistics. Chair of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, Deshundra Jefferson, emphasized the economic benefits, stating, “This development strengthens our local economy and provides our workforce with more high-quality jobs. We are proud the Virginia Jobs Investment Program continues to invest in our community, further solidifying Prince William County as a premier destination for businesses seeking a competitive edge.”
Partnerships Driving Growth in Virginia’s Pharmaceutical Industry
Granules Consumer Health’s expansion was made possible through collaborative efforts between the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and Prince William County. To support job creation, the Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP) will provide funding and consultative services, focusing on recruitment and training activities. As a state-funded business incentive, VJIP helps reduce human resource costs for expanding companies and promotes local economic development by enhancing job opportunities.
Caren Merrick, Virginia’s Secretary of Commerce and Trade, also praised the growth, adding, “Virginia’s pharmaceutical industry is thriving, and today’s growth announcement from Granules Consumer Health exemplifies that fact. This facility will add more complex manufacturing capabilities for generic drugs, which will ultimately produce safe, cost-effective alternatives to brand-name medications.”
Delegate Josh Thomas expressed his appreciation for Granules’ commitment to the community, saying, “This expansion solidifies Prince William County as one of the best places to do business in the Commonwealth and creates 99 new jobs right here in the 21st district.”
Investing in the Future of Healthcare and Life Sciences
Granules Consumer Health’s expansion highlights the company’s mission to provide affordable and effective healthcare solutions. As part of this effort, the newly installed manufacturing lines will ensure increased production of essential medications, meeting market demands while keeping costs accessible to consumers.
The project aligns with Virginia’s economic development goals, reinforcing the state’s position as a leader in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The company’s continued investment in Prince William County demonstrates the potential for further growth, with Granules playing a key role in strengthening Virginia’s healthcare sector.
This expansion reflects Virginia’s dedication to fostering innovation in life sciences while supporting local economies. With a growing number of high-quality jobs and increased manufacturing capabilities, the region stands poised to attract further investments, driving long-term economic growth and development.
