Waynesboro woman wins $500,000 jackpot from Virginia Lottery scratch-off
Waynesboro, Virginia – A regular grocery run turned into a life-changing moment for Lillian Santiago of Waynesboro. While shopping at Food Lion in Staunton, she purchased a Bags of Cash scratch-off ticket from the Virginia Lottery. That ticket turned out to be worth an incredible $500,000!
“I was shocked!” Santiago shared with Lottery officials. “I’m still taking it all in!”
Her winning ticket marks the third and final top prize claimed for the Bags of Cash game, meaning the game is now officially closed. According to Virginia Lottery rules, scratch-off games are ended once the final top prize is awarded. The odds of winning the top prize in the Bags of Cash game were 1 in 612,000, while the chances of winning any prize were 1 in 3.78.
The win comes as Virginia Lottery continues its commitment to supporting public education. In Fiscal Year 2024, the Lottery contributed more than $934 million to K-12 education, making up about 10 percent of the state’s total K-12 school budget. Santiago’s community of Waynesboro received over $3.8 million in lottery funds for education in the past fiscal year.
