Mother wanted to discipline her 7-year-old son for misbehaving at school so she kicked him out of the vehicle and forced him to walk 8 blocks while she drove beside him when the boy grabbed the car door handle and she ran over him; arrested

According to police reports, a mother’s attempt at disciplining her 7-year-old son took a dangerous turn, resulting in severe consequences. As per reports, a 27-year-old mother, later identified as Sarai, was arrested for an extreme form of punishment that led to her running over her child with a car. This case has raised serious concerns about parental discipline and child safety.

Sarai was taken into custody and charged with felony-aggravated child abuse following the incident. Alongside her in the vehicle was a 53-year-old woman, later identified as Carla, who was also arrested but was charged with a misdemeanor for endangering the welfare of a child.

According to court documents, the principal of the school where the 7-year-old attended classes contacted Sarai to inform her of her son’s inappropriate behavior at school on February 8. The incident started after Sarai picked up her son from school, located about eight blocks from their home. Despite the proximity, Sarai decided her son needed to be punished for his actions by making him walk or run home while she drove beside him. However, the situation took a dangerous turn quickly when the boy, after being forced out of the car, tried to re-enter the vehicle. In an attempt to prevent him from getting back in, Sarai accelerated, resulting in the boy being dragged under the car and run over by the rear tire.

Fortunately, the boy survived the incident with only abrasions, a fact that authorities described as a miracle considering the potential for more severe injuries. The child was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. Following the incident, Sarai was taken to jail. She was released on a $50,000 bond a few days later. Owens, implicated in the event for her presence and failure to prevent the incident, was also arrested and later released on a $500 bond. A judge has ordered that Sarai be prohibited from having any contact with her son until further notice, a measure taken to ensure the child’s safety.
