Woman, who “fed” her boyfriend’s 1-year-old daughter water beads and button shaped batteries months before she died from acetone poisoning, lied to investigators regarding the infant’s death before they discovered the web-searches on her cellphone; arrested

A 20-year-old woman, later identified as Aleisia, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child, stemming from the alleged murder of the 1-year-old daughter of her boyfriend, identified as Iris. This case, marked by its disturbing details, has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the crime and the meticulous planning that preceded it.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Aleisia had fed the infant harmful substances, including water beads and button-shaped batteries.

The investigation revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior by Aleisia. The Attorney General expressed her dismay at the case, noting the deliberate steps taken to harm a defenseless child and the effort to mislead investigators. The investigation showed that Aleisia had conducted extensive research on how certain substances could harm children and then acted on these findings.

The critical incident unfolded on June 25, 2023. Emergency medical personnel responded to a call regarding an unresponsive one-year-old girl. Upon arrival, they found Iris unconscious and not breathing. The first responders immediately transported her to the hospital. Due to the severity of her condition, Iris was later airlifted to another hospital for additional treatment. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Iris succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on June 29.

An autopsy performed on June 30 revealed that Iris’ cause of death was acetone poisoning, leading to organ failure. Medical experts concluded that she had been exposed to acetone shortly before her hospitalization.

The police department and the DA’s office led a detailed investigation into the tragic death of Iris. Detectives discovered that Aleisia had conducted various web searches on her cellphone about harmful household products, which included water beads, batteries, and nail polish. Her searches were alarming, with phrases such as “beauty products that are poisonous to kids” and “medications leading to accidental poisoning deaths in children.”

Further investigation revealed that months before Iris’ fatal poisoning, she had been hospitalized for ingesting harmful objects, including water beads and button-shaped batteries, a fact that correlated with Aleisia’s search history.

In a statement by Iris’ family, they expressed their shock and dismay at the actions of Aleisia and Iris’ father, emphasizing the devastation brought upon Iris and both families involved. The family acknowledged the thoroughness of the police investigation, which took 196 days, ensuring that every detail was meticulously examined.
