Multiple counties in Roanoke Valley experiencing major power outages

Roanoke, Virginia – The Roanoke Valley and surrounding counties are facing significant power outages, affecting thousands of Appalachian Power (AEP) customers, with restoration efforts underway but many still without electricity.

Current Outage Status

As per the latest information from the AEP outage map, several counties are still grappling with a lack of power. The impacted areas include:

  • Amherst County: 210
  • Bedford County: 336
  • Botetourt County: 101
  • Carroll County: 52
  • Campbel County: 52
  • Franklin County: 168
  • Henry County: 140
  • Lynchburg: 192
  • Garden City: 1,221

Particularly hard hit is the Garden City area, with over 1,200 customers without power. George Porter from AEP said that the outage in this area was due to broken equipment. He also mentioned that crews were being dispatched to assess the damages and work towards restoring power.
