TSA hiring officers for Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport ahead of busy travel season

Roanoke, Virginia – The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is gearing up for the upcoming busy spring and summer travel seasons and is in search of qualified individuals to join their team.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced two hiring fairs, to be held at the Williamson Road Library from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 23 and April 20, to expedite the hiring process for the airport.

This opportunity presents a chance for applicants to join the TSA team and become an integral part of the nation’s security while contributing to the growth of the Roanoke region. The full-time positions offer a starting annual salary of $36,820.99, while part-time positions offer a rate of $17.64 per hour. All successful applicants will receive a hiring bonus of $1,000, with $500 awarded upon commencement of employment and the remaining $500 after the first year of service.

Interested applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals aged 18 years or above, possessing a high school diploma, GED or security experience equivalent, as specified by the TSA. No prior security or law enforcement experience is required as new hires will be thoroughly trained at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, with payment during training.

As part of the hiring process, applicants will undergo a medical evaluation, drug test, and pre-hire background check. Those attending the hiring events will participate in an information session, English proficiency and on-screen object recognition aptitude test, and an interview, followed by the said process.

To expedite the hiring process, interested applicants are encouraged to create a profile on usajobs.com and apply online. Attendees should also bring two forms of valid federal or state government-issued ID and their smartphones with them.

The TSA is dedicated to providing its employees with a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. Benefits include paid training, annual and sick leave, contributions to the Thrift Savings Plan and retirement, and comprehensive health care plans.

To gain a better understanding of the duties of a TSA officer and to learn more about the TSA’s mission, applicants are encouraged to watch a video titled “Day in the Life of a TSO.” Those who wish to apply for the TSA officer position may visit jobs.tsa.gov/transport-security-officer to view open positions nationwide.
