House Bill 1387, introduced by Virginia Beach Delegate Karen Greenhalgh, would force student-athletes to compete based on their biological sex

The General Assembly has moved forward with a bill that would require student athletes to play on teams that match their biological sex.

The proposed bill was approved by the Post-Secondary and Higher Education subcommittee by a vote of 6-4 on January 30.

Now, the full education committee will vote on the bill again on Wednesday.

House Bill 1387, which was proposed by Virginia Beach Delegate Karen Greenhalgh, would apply to students on “interscholastic, intercollegiate, intramural, or club athletic teams or sports sponsored by a public elementary or secondary school or by a public institution of higher education.”

A recent report says that Del. Greenhalgh knows of about 25 transgender people who are allowed to run for office in the Commonwealth.

As a college student, making an extra buck now and then was very important. I started as a part-time reporter since I was 19 yo, and I couldn’t believe it might become a long-time career. I'm happy to be part of the Virginian Tribune's team.
