Montgomery County Board of Supervisors to discuss implementing a cigarette tax

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. – One of the discussions on the agenda of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors’ meeting that will be held today is the proposal of imposing a cigarette tax.

According to the county, officials projected that this tax will bring in around $200,000 annually if it is implemented.

The legislation enables local governments to levy a tax of up to $0.40 per pack.

In the event that the proposal is approved, there will be a public hearing on December 12.
