Churchill Downs Incorporated takes control of Colonial Downs and Rosie’s Gaming Emporium

RICHMOND, Va. – The company that organizes the Kentucky Derby has taken ownership of the Colonial Downs Racetrack in Virginia, as well as six Rosie’s Gaming Emporium sites around the country, as part of a $2.75 billion deal.

Churchill Downs Incorporated has announced that it has completed the acquisition of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment along with its operations in the states of Virginia, New York, and Iowa.

In addition to the racetrack that is located in New Kent County, the company’s holdings in Virginia also comprise 2,700 historical horse racing machines that are located at Rosie’s sites all throughout the state, including Vinton.

“Today marks a significant moment in the evolution of Churchill Downs Incorporated,” said Bill Carstanjen, Chief Executive Officer of CDI. “This transaction meaningfully expands our geographic footprint to Iowa, New York, and Virginia, introducing a very unique set of assets and attractive organic growth opportunities to our company. We are excited to welcome the teams from each of these well-established properties into Churchill Downs Incorporated.”
