Court of Appeals decides former councilman should be allowed to post bond

ROANOKE, Va. – The Court of Appeals for the Commonwealth of Virginia has decided that former member of the Roanoke City Council Robert Jeffrey Jr. should be allowed to post bail while he appeals his most recent sentence.

After being found guilty of acquiring money by false pretenses, and after entering a plea of no contest to the charge of embezzlement, he was given a sentence of two and a half years in jail. Jeffrey was condemned to serve his time in prison. The bail application was rejected after that.

The 5th of October, 2022 The verdict that denied bail was overturned by a three-judge panel, and they instructed the trial court to establish reasonable conditions for Jeffrey’s release from custody. On October 11, there will be a hearing about this matter.
