National Weather Service confirms multiple tornadoes touched down in New Jersey
On Saturday, a severe storm hit New Jersey, and the National Weather Service has confirmed that at least four tornadoes touched down, wreaking havoc in Cinnaminson, Sea Girt, Jackson, and Howell Township.
Although the strength of these tornadoes has yet to be announced, major cleanup efforts are currently underway across the affected communities. Thousands of people are still without power, and traffic lights remain out, making it challenging to navigate through the affected areas. Trees have been uprooted, and residents are left with the daunting task of cleaning up the debris.
The storm brought with it not just heavy rain and strong winds, but also hail and lightning, which added to the destruction. In Howell Township, for instance, workers spent Sunday cutting broken branches, officials were repairing downed power lines, and neighbors were clearing up debris. The storm damaged around 30 homes in the area, with some suffering minor damage, while others were severely affected.
Residents are understandably shaken by the event, with some describing it as “non-stop” and others as “everything is just destroyed.” A roof was torn off a home on Spicy Pond Road, and the family inside was lucky to escape unharmed. The roof was blown into the backyard, littering it with debris, and a rafter from that roof pierced through a neighboring home.
Despite the destruction, the resilience of the community remains strong, with neighbors helping each other out in these trying times. As we wait for the full extent of the damage to be assessed, we can only hope that those affected can get back on their feet soon.
