Roanoke County announces office closures and service adjustments for Labor Day holiday
Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke County has announced its schedule of closures and service changes in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 1. Most county offices and facilities will be closed, with limited recreation services and adjusted waste collection throughout the week.
Trash collection will not occur on Monday, September 1. Instead, all routes will operate one day later than usual for the remainder of the week. Residents are asked to place their carts out on the adjusted schedule to ensure collection.
The Roanoke County Public Library branches will also be closed for the day, resuming normal operating hours on Tuesday, September 2.
Recreation and Tourism Facilities
The Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism has released its holiday schedule for Monday:

Green Ridge Recreation Center – Open 5:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Explore Park Visitor Center – Open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Treetop Quest at Explore Park – Open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Splash Valley Water Park – Open 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Brambleton Recreation Center – Closed

Parks, Recreation & Tourism Administrative Office – Closed
This schedule ensures residents can still enjoy many outdoor and fitness activities during the holiday while some indoor facilities remain closed.
Transportation and Courts
Public transit services will also see adjustments. CORTRAN services will not operate on Monday, September 1. However, the McAfee Knob Trailhead Shuttle will remain in operation, offering service for hikers. Shuttle bookings and schedules are available online at mcafeeshuttle.com.
The Roanoke County Circuit Court will be closed in observance of the holiday, reopening on Tuesday.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for these closures and schedule adjustments as the county pauses many of its normal operations to observe Labor Day.
