Roanoke announces ADA ramp construction to ensure improved service access for all residents

Roanoke, Virginia – The City of Roanoke will begin work on a new ADA-accessible ramp at the Municipal South building on Monday, April 14, 2025. The ramp will provide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant access to the building’s second-floor entrance on Church Avenue, enhancing access to vital city services for all residents.

Construction is scheduled to continue through the end of August 2025. While the Church Avenue entrance will stay open throughout the duration of the project, some temporary changes will affect the surrounding area. Visitors are advised to plan ahead and be aware of the following disruptions:

  • A portion of the sidewalk directly in front of the Municipal South building will be closed during the ramp construction.

  • Street parking on Church Avenue near the building will be reduced during the construction period.

  • The first-floor entrance located on 2nd Street will continue to function as the primary ADA-accessible entrance for the building until the new ramp is completed.

City officials are asking for the public’s patience as they make these important upgrades. The new ramp is part of Roanoke’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure inclusivity in public access.

“We appreciate your patience as we improve access to City services, and we encourage visitors to plan ahead when coming to Municipal South during this time,” the city announced.

For more updates on the project or related city initiatives, residents are encouraged to visit Roanoke’s official website or follow the city’s communication channels.
