Traffic advisory details overnight lane closures for bridge work on I-495 and Dulles Corridor Interchange
Fairfax, Virginia – Crews will begin the installation of ten bridge girders adjacent to northbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) at the Dulles Corridor Interchange for the first span of a new express lanes ramp. This ramp will connect the Dulles Toll Road to the northbound 495 Express Lanes. To accommodate this work, overnight lane and ramp closures will take place starting Monday, December 9, through Friday, December 13, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Lane and Ramp Closures
The ramp from eastbound Dulles Toll Road/Airport Access Highway (Route 267) to northbound I-495 will be closed during these hours. Motorists should follow the signed detour:
- Exit 18A to travel southbound on I-495 toward Richmond.
- Use Exit 46B to northbound Route 123/Chain Bridge Road.
- Continue on the ramp-lane to immediately merge onto northbound I-495.
Additionally, there will be multi-lane closures and periodic traffic stoppages on northbound I-495 between Route 7 and Lewinsville Road. These stoppages, lasting up to 20 minutes each, will occur between midnight and 5 a.m. Drivers traveling through the area are encouraged to exercise caution and anticipate potential delays.
Future Weekend Closure in January 2025
In late January 2025, larger girders will be installed over northbound I-495 for the same express lanes ramp. This work will necessitate significant traffic disruptions near Tysons and the Dulles Corridor Interchange during a weekend-long period. Specific details and additional updates about this phase of construction will be released in the coming weeks.
In case of inclement weather or other delays, the current work schedule may be extended or rescheduled. Motorists should remain informed about updates to avoid inconvenience.
