Gas prices on the rise in Roanoke
Roanoke, Virginia – Gasoline prices in Roanoke have surged 12.4 cents per gallon in the last week, a sharp increase that has left many motorists feeling the squeeze.
According to GasBuddy’s latest survey, the average price of gasoline in Roanoke now stands at $3.44 per gallon, a sobering reminder of the challenges facing American drivers.
As prices continue to climb, consumers are finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. A month ago, gasoline prices in Roanoke were 28.4 cents per gallon lower, underscoring the extent of the recent price surge. However, the situation is even worse when compared to last year, with prices now 41.1 cents per gallon lower than they were in 2022.
Diesel prices, on the other hand, have fallen slightly in the last week, with the national average price dropping 0.3 cents per gallon to $4.15. While this will be a welcome reprieve for some, the overall trend remains upward, with gasoline prices in 45 states climbing over the past week.
Despite this, there are still pockets of respite for savvy consumers. The cheapest station in Roanoke currently sells gasoline for $3.19 per gallon, while the most expensive is $3.59, a difference of 40 cents per gallon. In the rest of the state, the range is even greater, with the lowest price coming in at $2.84 per gallon and the highest at $4.29, a difference of $1.45 per gallon.
“While the rising price of oil is likely the largest factor in rising gas prices, seasonal impacts continue to also exert pressure on prices,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “With the Northeast making the final step in the transition to summer gasoline this week, states in that region should expect a sharp rise in gasoline prices over the next week or two.”
With prices continuing to rise across the country, it’s clear that the situation will remain challenging for the foreseeable future. However, it’s worth remembering that oil prices remain a wildcard, and it’s difficult to predict exactly how they will affect gasoline prices in the weeks and months ahead.
