The local Nassau County GOP freshman lawmaker continues to face intense media scrutiny over his background

Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) blamed the Nassau County GOP on Thursday for his “embellished resume.” The freshman lawmaker is still getting a lot of attention from the press about his background.

In an interview with Newsmax on Thursday, Santos said, “I would have never been chosen by the Nassau County GOP if I hadn’t finished college.”

“It’s not fair to say that I lied and that it was a campaign of lies and tricks. “That’s just how the Nassau County GOP wants to spin this story for political gain,” he said.

Santos first said that he had lied about his education and work history in December. Santos didn’t go to Baruch College or any other college, and he never worked for Citigroup or Goldman Sachs, despite what he said on the campaign trail.

Santos has said in the past that he is a “proud American Jew” and that his grandparents fled persecution in Europe during the Holocaust. He has since said that he is a Catholic and that he only meant to say that he was “Jew-ish.”

The Republican from New York has also been accused of lying about a long list of other things, like the fact that he went to a prestigious prep school in New York, that his mother died because of 9/11, and that he knew several people who were killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting. A lot of people are also looking into his finances right now.

In an interview on Thursday, Santos said, “I’m a person, and I’ve made mistakes.” “I’ve made peace with my mistakes and told the truth about them.”

He also said, “I want to be judged by what I do.” “If you look at my record, I am one of the most conservative members of Congress right now. I have kept my promise to the people of New York’s 3rd Congressional District that I will vote conservatively.”

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have been calling for him to step down.
