Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office begins new summer tour to strengthen community ties through weekly sessions
Roanoke, Virginia – The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office has unveiled a fresh effort aimed at strengthening community relationships and improving public understanding of local law enforcement. The Summer Transparency Tour, which kicks off June 10 and runs through September 30, 2025, will bring Sheriff’s Office representatives into neighborhoods across Roanoke each Tuesday evening.
This new citywide outreach initiative is designed to create open, face-to-face engagement between residents and law enforcement. The program will provide an opportunity for community members to ask questions, voice concerns, and learn more about the functions and programs within the Sheriff’s Office. Events will be held in easily accessible public spaces such as libraries, community centers, and meetings of neighborhood watch groups.
Topics will vary by week, but sessions are expected to include information on the responsibilities of the Sheriff’s Office, updates on new laws impacting residents, services available through the agency, and guidance on navigating the correctional system.
First Session Set for June 10 at Raleigh Court Library
The first event of the tour will take place on Tuesday, June 10, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Raleigh Court Library Community Room, located at 2112 Grandin Rd SW. This week’s topic is titled “My Loved One Has Been Arrested – Now What?” and will serve as an introductory session on corrections. The session will cover essentials like visitation procedures, phone access, commissary use, and sending mail to incarcerated individuals.
“This discussion will guide families through what to expect following an arrest,” according to the Sheriff’s Office announcement, “while also explaining how to maintain contact with loved ones during incarceration.”
More Ways to Stay Informed and Connected
Each event’s start time may vary depending on the location, and updated schedules and session details will be shared through the Sheriff’s Office website and social media platforms. Residents are encouraged to stay informed by visiting www.roanokecitysheriffsoffice.com or by following the Sheriff’s Office on Facebook and Instagram.
By taking law enforcement conversations directly into the neighborhoods they serve, the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office hopes to foster a stronger sense of trust, clarity, and community involvement throughout the summer.
