LEGO expands presence in Virginia with new facility bringing more than three hundred new positions

Prince George, Virginia – Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that the LEGO Group will invest $366 million to construct a 2,000,000-square-foot distribution warehouse in Prince George County’s Crosspointe Business Centre. This substantial expansion of LEGO’s U.S. operations will bring 305 new jobs to the area.

“The LEGO Group is not just a household name, it’s a symbol of creativity, innovation, and quality that resonates globally,” said Governor Youngkin. “Three years after choosing Virginia to establish its U.S. manufacturing plant, the LEGO Group’s decision to expand into Prince George County is an exciting new chapter in this partnership, bringing 305 new, high-quality jobs to the region.” The new distribution center will operate alongside LEGO’s future U.S. manufacturing facility already under construction in Chesterfield County’s Meadowville Technology Park. That 1.7 million-square-foot plant, announced in 2022, is expected to be fully operational by 2027 and will eventually support more than 1,700 jobs.

Carsten Rasmussen, LEGO Group’s Chief Operations Officer, explained how the new warehouse will complement the Chesterfield factory. “The regional distribution center will bring greater flexibility to our network, ensuring we are well positioned to support long-term growth in the Americas. Together with our future Virginia factory, the RDC will shorten our supply chain in the region – reducing lead times for our customers as well as our environmental impact.”

Founded in 1932 in Billund, Denmark, the LEGO Group has grown into one of the most recognized and beloved toy brands in the world. The company’s name comes from the Danish words “LEg GOdt,” meaning “Play Well.” Today, LEGO’s products are sold in over 120 countries, and the company remains family-owned and headquartered in Billund. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) worked alongside Prince George County and Virginia’s Gateway Region to secure this major investment. Governor Youngkin approved a $2.53 million grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to support the project. “This investment brings high-quality jobs to Prince George County and reflects our broader commitment to building healthy, vibrant communities,” said Juan Pablo Segura, Secretary of Commerce and Trade.

Local leaders praised LEGO’s choice to expand in the region. Senator Lashrecse Aird emphasized the direct benefit to families: “The LEGO Group’s investment here in our community, bringing with it over 300 new jobs, means new opportunities for families and a stronger foundation for our community.” Delegate Carrie Coyner added, “We’re especially excited to welcome more of the LEGO family to our district — it’s a testament to the kind of community we’ve built and the bright future we’re creating together.” Delegate Kim Taylor, who represents Prince George County, called the announcement a “tremendous milestone”, noting that it highlights the state’s commitment to attracting “top-tier companies that offer lasting, well-paying jobs.”

Floyd Brown, Jr., Chairman of the Prince George County Board of Supervisors, praised the county’s proactive work in infrastructure and workforce development, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome the LEGO Group to our county and to the Crosspointe Business Centre.” Keith Boswell, President and CEO of Virginia’s Gateway Region, echoed the excitement, saying, “The LEGO Group’s decision to establish this major distribution center is a testament to our strategic location and world-class infrastructure.”

The company is also eligible for support from the Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Zone Grant Program, which incentivizes companies to expand maritime-related operations. Stephen A. Edwards, CEO and Executive Director of the Virginia Port Authority, called LEGO a “valued port user”, adding, “This announcement shows the confidence the LEGO Group has in Virginia and the port’s ability to safely and sustainably move its cargo to world markets for years to come.”

To support job creation, VEDP will assist LEGO through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP), which provides funding and consultative services for recruitment and training. This program helps reduce the HR costs for new or expanding businesses and underscores Virginia’s dedication to workforce development. With this expansion, LEGO deepens its footprint in Virginia, solidifying the Commonwealth’s growing reputation as a hub for global business investment and innovation.
