Virginia Department of Transportation to close section of Shelburne Glebe Road next week due to planned road work

Leesburg, Virginia – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a temporary closure of a portion of Shelburne Glebe Road (Route 729) in Loudoun County to allow for essential road work, weather permitting. The closure will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Monday, April 21, and Tuesday, April 22.

The impacted stretch of road lies between North Fork Road (Route 728) and Forest Mills Road (Route 727), and will be closed to through traffic during the daytime hours. Crews will be working within this zone, and traffic will be redirected to allow for safe completion of the project.

Local Access and Detour Route

Residents who live along Shelburne Glebe Road will still be able to access their properties during the closure. However, Oakland Green Road (Route 841) from Forest Mills Road heading east will be limited to local traffic only.

Drivers needing to travel through the area will be detoured via North Fork Road, Lincoln Road (Route 722), and Forest Mills Road to reconnect with Shelburne Glebe Road. Signs will be in place to guide motorists along the detour route.

Safety Reminder for Motorists and Cyclists

VDOT is reminding all drivers and bicyclists to remain cautious when navigating near active construction zones.

To stay updated on road work, traffic conditions, and incidents, VDOT encourages the public to use available resources, including 511Virginia, the 511 mobile app, or by calling 511 at any time while in Virginia.
