Virginia casinos report over $85 million in gaming revenue during March 2025
Bristol, Virginia – The Virginia Lottery has released its casino gaming report for March 2025, showing that the state’s three operating casinos—Hard Rock Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, and Caesars Virginia—generated more than $85.1 million in adjusted gaming revenue (AGR). Of that total, $15.3 million has been collected in state taxes, which are distributed to various funds and local jurisdictions.
Slots and Table Games Drive Revenue Across the State
Among the three casinos, Caesars Virginia led the way in total AGR, reporting $35.9 million in gaming revenue from 1,579 slot machines and table games. Of that, $26 million came from slot play and nearly $10 million from table games.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth followed with $27.8 million in total AGR, including almost $20 million from slot machines and $7.9 million from table games.
Hard Rock Bristol, with 1,517 gaming devices, reported $21.3 million in total AGR—$17.3 million from slots and $3.9 million from table games.
Combined, the three casinos generated $63.2 million from slot machines and $21.9 million from table games.
Millions Distributed to Localities and State Support Funds
According to Virginia law, casinos are taxed on a graduated scale based on their AGR. The $15.3 million collected in March taxes has been distributed to several funds, including the host cities, the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund, and the Family and Children’s Trust Fund.
For the month of March:

Hard Rock Bristol paid $3.83 million in taxes. Of that, $1.27 million was allocated to the Regional Improvement Commission, which serves as the host city entity for Bristol.

Rivers Casino Portsmouth contributed $5 million in taxes, with $1.67 million going directly to the City of Portsmouth.

Caesars Virginia paid the largest share at $6.47 million in taxes, with $2.15 million going to the City of Danville.
Additional state-level allocations included:

$122,675.91 directed to the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund.

$30,668.98 allocated to the Family and Children’s Trust Fund.

$10.07 million remains available in the state’s Gaming Proceeds Fund.
