Roanoke Sheriff’s Office invites community to a special session on trauma awareness and recovery

Roanoke, Virginia – The Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office is inviting community members to attend an informative session focused on understanding trauma and its impact on individuals and communities. This event aims to provide valuable insights into trauma, coping mechanisms, and strategies to foster healing and resilience.

What to Expect at the Session

The session, titled Trauma Basics + Mindfulness, is part of a two-part series presented by Decca Knight, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and an EMDR Certified Therapist. As an Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapist and Breathwork Coach, Knight will guide attendees through essential aspects of trauma awareness and practical mindfulness techniques.

Participants will gain knowledge about:

  • Different types of trauma and their potential effects on individuals and communities.
  • Effective ways to support those who have experienced trauma.
  • Practical strategies to build resilience and promote healing through mindful practices.

This session is designed to illuminate common behaviors that may arise after distressing experiences and offer preventive approaches to empower individuals to navigate challenges more effectively.

The TRIAD meeting, hosted by the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office, will take place on:

About TRIAD and Its Mission

TRIAD is a collaborative effort involving local law enforcement, senior citizens, and service providers dedicated to reducing criminal victimization of older adults. The initiative fosters partnerships through the Senior and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) program, which focuses on education, outreach, and crime prevention tailored for the senior community.

By attending this session, participants will not only enhance their understanding of trauma but also contribute to a community-wide effort to promote safety, resilience, and emotional well-being.
