Roanoke County administrative offices announce closures and schedule changes for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Roanoke, Virginia – In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Roanoke County has announced that its administrative offices will be closed on Monday, January 20, 2025. The closure will affect several facilities and services throughout the county, with adjustments made to ensure residents are aware of the modified schedules.

Trash Collection Delayed by One Day

Residents should note that trash collection services will be delayed by one day for the entire week of January 20-24, 2025. This adjustment ensures continuity while accommodating the holiday closure.

Parks and Recreation Facilities

While some recreational facilities will remain open, others will observe the holiday:

  • Green Ridge Recreation Center will operate on reduced hours, opening at 5:30 AM and closing at 8:00 PM.
  • Public Service Center and Brambleton Center will be closed for the day.

Library and Transportation Services

All Roanoke County Public Library locations will remain closed on January 20. Additionally, CORTRAN services, which provide public transportation assistance, will not be available during the holiday.

Clerk of Circuit Court Office Closed

The Roanoke County Clerk of Circuit Court will also observe the holiday and will be closed on Monday.

Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly and visit facilities or complete services either before or after the holiday. These closures aim to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. while allowing staff and the community to reflect on the significance of the day.
