Virginia State Fair invests in youth with educational grants for diverse career paths, application window open

Virginia – The Virginia State Fair (SFVA) renowned not just for its colorful celebrations but also for its dedication to producing the next generation of leaders and innovators through its extensive Youth Scholarship Program. This program seeks to assist young people who show potential in several competitive fields at the fair so that they have enough money to continue their education.

Aimed at honoring young people who have shone at the State Fair of Virginia, the SFVA Scholarship Program provides a wide spectrum of grants. Ten General Scholarships and fifteen Youth Livestock Scholarships, each designed to honor the particular talents and efforts of the participants, are part of the 2024 program.

Among the General awards—which call for the normal SFVA application—one $1,000 Gatewood Holland Stoneman Endowed Youth Development Scholarship and five $2,000 awards. These are reserved for those who have shown their skills in the State Fair contests set for 2024.

Likewise, the Youth Livestock Scholarships are put aside for individuals who took part in the Youth Livestock Shows scheduled for 2024. Senior, intermediate, and junior are the three categories that these awards fall under; first place in the senior category earns $2,561, then scales down to honorable mentions at $1,067.

This year SFVA is bringing a major change to the application procedure. After the first blind scoring period, top-scoring applicants will now be asked to a Webex interview. This additional phase is meant to give the assessment procedure a human touch so that the scholarship committee may better grasp the qualifications and ambitions of the applicants. With up to ten points for the applicant’s total, this interview will be a crucial component of the final result.

Potential candidates are advised to prepare their applications with great attention. Completing the application procedure calls for using a form accessible on the SFVA scholarship page. Supporting materials like essays or report cards and transcripts must be uploaded through this process. Applications should utilize a personal Google account since institutional accounts have demonstrated to be troublesome in the past.

The receipt of applications deadline is January 22, 2025 at 6 PM. For any questions or further information, applicants may contact the scholarship committee at [email protected]. Including “scholarship” in the subject line helps to guarantee proper direction of the search.

As a college student, making an extra buck now and then was very important. I started as a part-time reporter since I was 19 yo, and I couldn’t believe it might become a long-time career. I'm happy to be part of the Virginian Tribune's team.
