Oak Lane in Waynesboro set to close for several months as part of Southern Corridor development
Waynesboro, Virginia – Oak Lane in Waynesboro will close to through traffic for several months starting Monday, January 6, 2025, as part of the ongoing Waynesboro Southern Corridor project. This temporary closure will allow contractors to widen a section of the roadway. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that the closure will impact Oak Lane between Lyndhurst Road and Delphine Avenue, with access limited to local traffic only.
Local Access and Detours
While the closure restricts through traffic, local residents, businesses, and property owners will still have access. Motorists traveling within the closure zone should be prepared for daytime flagging operations to manage traffic flow.
Through traffic will be rerouted using designated detours:
- For drivers approaching from the north end of Oak Lane: Head west on Lyndhurst Road (Route 631) into Augusta County, then turn south on Route 664 (Lyndhurst Road) and east on Route 624 (Mount Torrey Road). Continue on Route 624, which becomes Delphine Avenue in Waynesboro, leading back to Oak Lane.
- For drivers approaching from the south end of Oak Lane: Travel south on Delphine Avenue into Augusta County, where it transitions to Route 624 (Mount Torrey Road). Follow Route 624, turn north onto Route 664 (Lyndhurst Road), and then proceed east on Route 631 (Lyndhurst Road), re-entering Waynesboro and connecting back to Oak Lane.
Timeline and Project Updates
VDOT expects Oak Lane to reopen to all traffic by late spring 2025, weather permitting. The overall Waynesboro Southern Corridor project, aimed at improving road infrastructure and traffic flow, is scheduled for completion by September 2025. VDOT will provide regular updates on the project’s progress through its Waynesboro Southern Corridor project page.
