Optimum Technologies LLC announces facility expansion in Loudoun County with major investment
Sterling, Virginia – Governor Glenn Youngkin announced today that Optimum Technologies LLC, a company specializing in space flight hardware design, manufacturing, integration, and other space mission systems, will invest $999,000 to expand its satellite manufacturing facility in Loudoun County. This expansion is expected to create 40 new jobs, strengthening the region’s position as a key player in the aerospace industry.
“Optimum Technologies’ decision to expand its manufacturing facility in Loudoun County demonstrates the trust manufacturers have in Virginia,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “The company is a key component of the Northern Virginia aerospace industry, and we are gratified to see this investment.”
Loudoun County’s Role in the Aerospace Industry
Optimum Technologies, also known as OpTech, has experienced significant growth due to the increasing demand in the space sector. The company, founded in Virginia in 2015, provides a range of aerospace solutions, including satellite, ground, and mission systems engineering. With most staff members holding Top Secret security clearances, OpTech supports various customers, including the U.S. Department of Defense, civil agencies, and commercial clients.
Timothy Rumford, Executive Vice President of OpTech, expressed excitement about the expansion, noting that the company’s original facility, which opened in 2022, could no longer meet their needs. “We have seen great demand for our hardware and services and have outgrown our original SMF. Our new facility will give us approximately 5 times the capacity and help continue our growth plans and, in turn, help support our nation’s needs for rapid and low-cost access to space.”
The expansion reflects Loudoun County’s commitment to fostering a diverse and innovative economy, as highlighted by Phyllis Randall, Chair of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. “The expansion of Optimum Technologies represents a significant investment in our community and underscores Loudoun’s commitment to fostering a diverse economy where innovation thrives. Our county’s skilled and dynamic workforce continues to attract and support high-tech companies like Optimum, ensuring that Loudoun remains a leading destination for companies to grow, succeed, and contribute to our economic landscape.”
Support from State and Local Leaders
State and local leaders celebrated the announcement, recognizing the expansion as a testament to Virginia’s appeal as a prime location for aerospace companies. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Caren Merrick emphasized the importance of the investment, stating, “Virginia is a prime location for aerospace companies. This investment reinforces Northern Virginia as a key aerospace hub that offers the infrastructure for developing and manufacturing new technologies.”
Senator Suhas Subramanyam also welcomed the expansion, highlighting its impact on the region’s economic development. “Optimum Technologies’ investment in our region is a welcome one and demonstrates our commitment to innovation, job creation, and economic development. I will continue to champion growing business and investment in our region as we further establish Loudoun as one of the best places to do business in the world.”
Delegate Atoosa Reaser praised the supportive business environment and workforce development in Loudoun County. “It’s no secret that Loudoun County is among the nation’s best places for business, and Optimum Technologies’ near million-dollar expansion is just another example of that prowess,” she said, noting the contributions of local education and business partners.
Virginia’s Commitment to Job Creation
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, in collaboration with Loudoun County, played a key role in securing the project for Virginia. Optimum Technologies’ job creation will be supported through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program (VJIP), a state-funded initiative that provides funding and consultative services to companies creating new jobs. VJIP reduces human resource costs for new and expanding companies, supporting recruitment and training activities that benefit Virginia’s workforce.
Optimum Technologies’ expansion not only demonstrates confidence in Virginia’s business environment but also reinforces the state’s position as a leader in the aerospace industry. The investment will contribute to the continued growth of Northern Virginia’s dynamic economy and help meet the growing demand for advanced space technologies.
