CMC Electronics expands to Fairfax County, expected to invest $5 million and generate at least 89 new jobs

Reston, Virginia – With an investment of $5 million, CMC Electronics, a well-known avionics manufacturer with headquarters in Montreal, Canada, has announced plans to open a new office and research and development (R&D) facility in Reston, Virginia. Over the following few years, this action is expected to generate 89 new jobs; as the company’s activities grow, more employment could result.

Governor Glenn Youngkin expressed excitement about the new development, pointing out that it supports Virginia’s business-friendly environment’s efficacy and therefore reinforces Virginia’s reputation as a center for aerospace innovation.

“CMC Electronics’ decision to invest $5 million and establish its new facilities in Fairfax County underscores Virginia’s position as a leader in aerospace innovation,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “This creation of new high-tech jobs demonstrates the strength of our Commonwealth’s talent pipeline and our commitment to fostering cutting-edge industries. Virginia’s pro-business climate and strategic location continue to attract global companies like CMC Electronics, further solidifying our role in shaping the future of aviation technology.”

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay also welcomed CMC Electronics, emphasizing that their choice to expand in Reston is a testament to the county’s conducive business policies, strong support for innovation, and exceptional quality of life.

CMC Electronics adds a lot of creativity and knowledge to the area with a worldwide record for pioneering sophisticated avionics and high-performance optoelectronics for both military and commercial aircraft applications. Supported by a seasoned technical team, the organization is well-known for its combined civil and defense capabilities as well as extensive certification support.

The project was secured by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership working with the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. To help with the project, Governor Youngkin authorized a $300,000 grant from the Commonwealth Opportunity Fund. Additionally, CMC Electronics may qualify for further incentives under the Major Business Facility Job Tax Credit, which benefits businesses creating new full-time jobs. The Virginia Jobs Investment Program will also provide funding and services to aid in employee recruitment and training activities.

For Fairfax County, this investment marks a major turning point with great economic potential and support of Northern Virginia’s position as a major actor in the aerospace and technology industries.
