Roanoke City announces office closures and changes in waste collection schedule for Election Day

Roanoke, Virginia – The City of Roanoke has announced that all city offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in observance of Election Day. This closure aims to encourage civic participation and ensure city employees have the opportunity to vote.

Adjusted Waste Collection Services

To accommodate the closure, the city will implement a modified schedule for trash, bulk, brush, and “A” week single-stream recycling collection for both residents and businesses. The changes are as follows:

  • Monday’s Routes: Collection will proceed as scheduled.
  • Tuesday’s Routes: Collected on Wednesday, November 6.
  • Wednesday’s Routes: Collected on Thursday, November 7.
  • Thursday’s Routes: Collected on Friday, November 8.

This temporary schedule ensures that all waste and recycling services continue without disruption despite the holiday closure.

For further details or inquiries about the modified collection schedule, residents and businesses can contact the Solid Waste Management team at 540-853-2000, option 1.

The City of Roanoke encourages residents to adjust accordingly and thanks everyone for their cooperation during this time.
