Virginia invites communities to apply for flood preparedness grants in latest funding round
Richmond, Virginia – The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has announced the opening of the fifth grant round of the Community Flood Preparedness Fund (CFPF). This program invites communities across Virginia to apply for a share of $85 million in grants and loans aimed at addressing the effects of recurrent flooding, sea level rise, and extreme weather events. Applications for the current round are due by November 9, 2024.
Funding to Support Flood Mitigation and Resilience Projects
The Community Flood Preparedness Fund helps localities across Virginia to plan for and enhance their capacity to reduce flood risks. The fund is designed to support the implementation of mitigation projects that adhere to local, state, and federal floodplain management standards. Projects that align with approved local resilience plans and the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan are prioritized for funding.
DCR administers the fund in partnership with the Virginia Resources Authority. In addition to managing the grant program, DCR oversees the state’s floodplain management, flood resilience planning, and dam safety programs, and also assists communities with meeting the requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program.
How to Apply for the Community Flood Preparedness Fund
Eligible communities interested in applying for CFPF Round 5 grants can find detailed information about eligibility requirements, application procedures, and instructions in the fund’s grant manual, which is available on the Community Flood Preparedness Fund website at www.dcr.virginia.gov/cfpf.
