Young girl puts deceased body of her newborn brother inside a container and places the tail in the back of a vehicle parked in the backyard after her mother had already ‘packed’ the remains inside a trash sack to hide them from her husband, both charged

Court documents obtained by Roanoke Daily Magazine show that a woman and her teenage girl are currently facing one charge each in regards to the death of a newborn boy. The 36-year-old Basma and her daughter Al, 19, are under investigation after authorities found the remains of a newborn, who was born just days before the discovery, packed inside a trash sack in a vehicle that was parked at the property where the family lived. The police said in a release to the public that the duo hid the remains because they wanted to get rid of him.

According to the police’s case report, officers found the baby after searching the area where the family lives. The remains of the boy were found in a vehicle parked in the backyard of the residence. The police said the boy still felt warm at the time, and they performed life-saving measures while waiting for the medical crews to arrive. After their arrival, the baby boy was immediately transferred to an area hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death, the police said in the report.

Paramedics initially responded to the OH. residence after Basma called them about a medical problem she was facing. They immediately noticed that the woman had recently given birth and called the police after not noticing a newborn in the house. Basma and Al were taken by the authorities and questioned. According to their statements, the mother gave birth mere days prior to that day. The newborn, the duo said, was born deceased, and the mother wanted to get rid of the baby and clean everything before her husband found out. Court documents show that Basma placed the remains in a trash bag, then asked her daughter to put them in a container before placing them in the vehicle parked in their yard.

The woman and her daughter are each facing a felony charge of abuse of a corpse, but there might be additional charges for them as the investigation continues. The mother was taken into custody last weekend and was issued a $50,000 bond. As a condition of her bond, she was required to surrender her passport. Her next court appearance is set to take place early next month. The daughter is also required to appear in court next month.

The police are waiting for the autopsy report, as they are only focused on figuring out what really happened to the newborn before deciding if additional charges will be filed against the mother and the teenager.
