Salem, Virginia – The Salem Fire & EMS Department has formally acknowledged Captain Chris Smith and Senior Firefighter/Paramedic Corey Hite for their successful completion of the “Virginia Department of Fire Programs Tower Rescue Training Program” held last week.

The training saw participation from eleven representatives hailing from Bedford County, the City of Danville, the City of Lynchburg, the City of Roanoke, and the City of Salem. The rigorous four-day curriculum encompassed activities such as lead climbing on structural towers, accessing heights, and executing both vertical and horizontal victim rescues.

The Salem Fire & EMS Department expressed gratitude to the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and the Bedford Fire Department for their commendable efforts in orchestrating the training and providing essential resources.

“This was a very intensive four-day class that involved lead climbing on structural towers, gaining access at heights, and rescuing victims both vertically and horizontally. We would especially like to thank the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and the Bedford Fire Department for all of their work in creating the props and sponsoring the class,” the department said.
