Is McDonald’s getting too expensive? McDonald’s customers upset over sudden price hike

Patrons of McDonald’s, the globally recognized fast-food franchise, have expressed disappointment over a significant price increase of a beloved menu item, a change attributed to the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Known for its vast selection of burgers, fries, and McFlurries, McDonald’s has been a preferred choice for cost-conscious, on-the-go consumers. However, a noticeable increase in the price of a popular item has recently sparked concern.

As of 2019, the price of McDonald’s hash browns stood at a mere 89p. Currently, as per the franchise’s app, this breakfast staple is priced at £1.49, representing a steep 112% increase. Reports from some customers suggest that the cost could reach up to £1.89 when ordered via Just Eat.

This unexpected price hike has prompted numerous disgruntled McDonald’s enthusiasts to voice their discontent on Twitter. One customer commented, “No one is talking about the price of a McDonald’s hash brown but we should be.” Another individual remarked, “The price of a hash brown from McDonald’s is OBSCENE!!!!” Others echoed these sentiments, underscoring the widespread dissatisfaction with the price surge.

In response to the criticism, McDonald’s noted that pricing decisions are at the discretion of individual restaurant owners and are influenced by location and food costs. The increase in the cost of the hash brown follows earlier price adjustments this year. Items such as the Mayo Chicken and the Bacon Mayo Chicken saw price rises in February, while the Bacon Double Cheeseburger, Triple Cheeseburger, and medium fizzy drinks also experienced an uptick.

Despite these price augmentations, it’s not all grim news for the McDonald’s aficionados in the UK. The franchise has recently introduced four new dipping sauces for McNuggets, a Steakhouse Stack burger, a Strawberries & Cream frappé, and an Iced Latte, adding a fresh twist to the menu for the upcoming hot summer days.
