Explore Park welcomes visitors for exciting weekend of adventure and fun

Roanoke, Virginia – The Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism department welcomes spring with a weekend full of adventure and fun activities for all ages at the Explore Park.

Visitors can enjoy a range of exciting activities, including Treetop Quest, where they can soar high above the treetops, and explore the scenic beauty of the park. Treetop Quest, the popular outdoor adventure attraction, is open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Advance registration is recommended, as walk-ins are based on availability. Guests can save $5 on admission after 3 p.m. on weekends with the last-call discount.

For those looking to make a difference in their community, the Roanoke River Clean-Up is an excellent opportunity to help beautify the area. Volunteers can help clean up selected trails and river frontage along the Roanoke River on Saturday, April 1st from 9 am until noon. Gloves, trash bags, and other necessary materials will be provided. To sign up as an individual or group, please email [email protected].

Nature lovers can take part in the Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt and Woodland Nature Crafts activities, where they can enjoy the park’s beauty while searching for natural treasures. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., naturalists will lead a self-guided nature scavenger hunt throughout the park, followed by woodland nature craft activities.

For hiking enthusiasts, the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Society of American Foresters will lead hikes on the Foresters Trail on Saturday. The first group will leave at 10 a.m., and the next group will depart at 11:30 a.m. These guided hikes provide a unique opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the park while learning about the forestry industry in the area.

On Saturday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Virginia Master Naturalists will teach nature lovers how to identify various wildflowers along trails throughout the park. This guided Wildflower Walk will provide a closer look at the beautiful flora of the region.

To round out the weekend, visitors can head over to the Twin Creeks Brewpub, which will be open both Saturday and Sunday from noon until 7 p.m. On Sunday between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., guests can participate in a special ‘Wooden Bunny Paint Party.’ Tickets for the paint party are $38 and can be purchased online.

For those looking to extend their stay, the Blue Ridge Campground will be open for its second season starting on Saturday, April 1st. Campsites will be available Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until October 28th. Guests can visit the Blue Ridge Campground website for campsite and booking details. With an array of activities and events, the Explore Park is the perfect place to kick off the spring season.
