Republican Senator questions Biden’s ability to handle the Chinese spy balloon case
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) said that President Biden is “detached from reality” and “delusional” about the threat from China after the U.S. shot down a suspected Chinese spy balloon that flew over the country earlier this month.
“He’s not in touch with reality. Johnson said of Biden on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” that he is crazy. “He says we can do something about it. We don’t. And the fact that he doesn’t see that what’s going on here is scary and puts our country in danger is scary in and of itself.”
Republicans have been very critical of Biden because he waited days to shoot down the balloon, even though it was floating over important military and nuclear sites.
Johnson said, “We don’t exactly have our A-team in place right now, which is more than unfortunate.” “We’ve got to—probably it’s not even true to call us the B-team. We are not playing with our best players right now. And Americans should be worried.”
Republicans have argued with Biden about his decision to let the balloon fly over the U.S., but defense officials have said that they told the president that he should wait until the balloon reached water before shooting it down because they were worried about the damage it could do if it fell on land.
Johnson’s criticism of Biden comes as new reports say that the U.S. has shot down at least two more objects over the U.S. and Canada in the past few days.
Officials haven’t said much about these events, but Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that the Biden administration told him that U.S. officials think they were balloons.
