Roanoke designated as the first Healthy Housing Change Agent by the National League of Cities
The National League of Cities has selected the City of Roanoke as the first qualifying city in its Healthy Housing Local Action Challenge.
Under this program, Roanoke has been designated as the first nationally recognized Healthy Housing Change Agent, thanks to its public-private collaboration called Healthy Homes Roanoke. This initiative is aimed at improving the health, safety, and comfort of the City’s most vulnerable residents through comprehensive home assessments and housing rehabilitation.
Healthy Homes Roanoke is working towards the goal of ensuring that qualifying residents receive appropriate home repairs to continue living in a safe environment for years to come. The program’s main objective is to enhance the quality of life for Roanoke residents by providing them with safe and healthy housing. The collaboration involves partnerships with various organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity, Total Action for Progress, and the City’s Department of Housing and Neighborhood Services.
The Healthy Housing Local Action Challenge was created to help cities across the country achieve their goals of providing safe, stable, and healthy housing for all residents. The program also aims to recognize cities that are making significant progress towards this goal. Roanoke’s selection as the first Healthy Housing Change Agent is an acknowledgment of its commitment to improving the living conditions of its most vulnerable residents.
By prioritizing the well-being of its residents, Roanoke is setting an example for other cities to follow in creating healthier and safer living environments for their communities.
