Cinderella & Prince Charming Boutique is a boutique is designed to provide teens on a budget their fairytale prom

BLACKSBURG, Vairginia – The Cinderella & Prince Charming Boutique is run by the YMCA at VT with help from the Blacksburg Junior Women’s Club and the Chi Delta Alpha Service Sorority.

Laureen Blakemore, the Director of Community Engagement at the YMCA at Virginia Tech, and Catherine Breeden, a field study student and event coordinator at Virginia Tech, tell us that this boutique is meant to help teens on a budget have a fairytale prom by selling new and gently used formal wear, shoes, and accessories for young men and women.

When a teen goes to prom or another formal event, it’s a special time in their lives. Everyone should have the chance to go if they want to, but it is a very expensive event. It’s especially true when you think about how much clothes, accessories, and personal care cost.

“What the YMCA at Virginia Tech does is find a need and fill it,” says Ron Ovelgoenner, the Director of Thrift Shop Operations for the YMCA.

They are holding Cinderella & Prince Charming Boutique events at the Y Thrift Shop, 1000 N. Main St., Blacksburg, on the following dates for high school students who are shopping on a budget.

The dates are:

Saturday February 25th

Saturday March 4th

Saturday March 11th

Sunday March 12th

Saturday March 18th

Saturday March 25th

Saturdays 10am-3pm

Sundays 1pm-4pm

As a college student, making an extra buck now and then was very important. I started as a part-time reporter since I was 19 yo, and I couldn’t believe it might become a long-time career. I'm happy to be part of the Virginian Tribune's team.
